音乐

音乐 participation and appreciation introduces students to a full range of musical experiences.
The primary objective of the music program is for each child to develop a love and knowledge of music. By exposing children to music early on, they not only develop a genuine appreciation for the musical arts but it also sparks their imagination, 创造力, 求知欲.

PreK-Grade 4

五年级学生 have the choice of either studying a string instrument (violin, 中提琴, or 大提琴) or the ukulele. String players learn basic technique, posture, and music theory by studying a basic method book. Ukulele students learn a variety of chords and practice following written notation from songs in their method book. Both string and ukulele students will produce audio recordings and music videos throughout the year. 
 
六年级的学生 build upon skills acquired the previous year. Students choose between studying a string instrument (violin, 中提琴, 大提琴) or the baritone ukulele. 在简要回顾之后, string students will learn new techniques and skills on their instruments by going through a moderate level method book. Students who choose to learn the baritone ukulele will find it a natural transition from their fifth grade soprano ukulele experience. This larger instrument is tuned like the first four guitar strings and is the perfect primer for young hands developing skills for future guitar playing. Both string and ukulele students will produce audio recordings and music videos throughout the year. 
 
七年级和八年级 are given a choice to study a string instrument (violin, 中提琴, 大提琴), 一种乐队乐器(长笛, 单簧管, 中音萨克斯风, 小号, 长号, 低音吉他, 或鼓), 或者参加戏剧课, 演员的声音和技巧. The instrumental groups will continue to develop skills working with method books along with concert repertoire. Students will be challenged to extend the range of their instrument, learn to perform more complex rhythms and tonalities, and become increasingly aware of the dynamic balance within their ensemble. 
 
九年级学生 have opportunities to explore string instruments, band, and vocals.

    初学者的乐队 is for students with little or no experience playing an instrument. Instruments are available on a rental basis. Fifth and sixth-grade students will join this group unless they have previous experience that would place them in a more advanced band.

    管乐团 is for musicians with some background and experience in their chosen instrument. 管乐团 is made up of primarily sixth-grade students.

  • 爵士乐队


    爵士乐队 is the only audition-based band in the school. Featuring a “Big Band Sound,” this group includes the most experienced musicians.

    字符串合奏 is open to musicians in all grades who have advanced experience.

  • 风合奏


    风合奏 attracts seventh through ninth-graders who want to continue their musical studies. It is also possible for fifth or sixth graders with advanced abilities to play in this band.

Carrie studied violin performance at 北卡罗莱纳 School of the 艺术 and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of 艺术 from Roanoke College in 1999. Carrie received an Advanced Certificate in Women’s Studies from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2006. 

Carrie’s teaching experience includes 歌剧ting her own studio, 教授私人课程 at The Cortlandt School of 表演艺术, 罗利的Ravenscroft学校, 北卡罗莱纳, 塞勒姆的Ridenhour音乐, 维吉尼亚州, and teaching and leading orchestra at a Junior 音乐ian’s Camp in Windhoek, 纳米比亚. Carrie has performed in numerous symphonies, 歌剧, 音乐剧, 芭蕾舞, 教堂服务, and over 200 weddings and private events.


Bill Fornara has been teaching instrumental music at RCS for 23 years. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in 音乐 Education from Manhattanville College in 1992, Bill spent five years managing Bramson’s 音乐 store, 教授私人课程, 表演音乐, and editing audiobooks at Kessler Media Productions. He is the proud father of two RCS alums. Bill is currently working towards earning a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.



Lainie Zades started her music career at a young age, attending The Juilliard School’s Preparatory Division from age 5 through high school, 主修小提琴和钢琴. She also attended the Manhattan School of 音乐’s Preparatory Division as a voice major. Lainie graduated from The Juilliard School in 1977 with a Bachelor of 音乐, 语音专业, 1978年, 音乐硕士. 大学时她教小提琴, 钢琴, and voice at Scarborough Country Day School – the independent school from which she attended and graduated.
